ABOUT ME

The plays my brother Ed, our younger neighbor Mike Britt, and I wrote and performed when we were pre-teens caused our mothers to fall off their chairs laughing though we had no intent to be humorous. Nevertheless, their reaction inspired me.

In high school I further realized the joy of writing when I found I could twist English assignments in such a way as to drive the good nuns to unholy exclamations.

Life intervened and I didn't turn to serious writing until I retired from system programming in 1994.

Because I enjoy research, my first books were kids' science books. Ask Me If I'm a Frog is listed on the John Burroughs Nature Books for Young Readers, mostly due to                           incredible illustrations.

.

Powering UP, the history of the women of the railroad in Bailey Yard, was written for Rail Fest, an event held the third Saturday in September in North Platte. The women I interviewed were open and honest and tough, and, even though oppressed at times, their humor and good nature shows in every story. They inspired me to bring the novels I'd been secretly writing back to the computer and be brave in my own life.

Ordinary Women combines research about the 1890s with a whimsical desire to take my grandmother and her three friends on the Klondike Gold Rush. After I finish editing the book to death, I will share it with the world.
